Morgan & Mallet (M&M) finds exceptional household staff for families across the UK.
We place butlers, estate managers, private PAs, nannies, chefs and housekeepers with principals who expect proven ability and absolute discretion.
• Founded by a former butler and nanny who understand private service from insider experience.
• Only candidates with verified, demonstrable success in demanding private homes.
Our recruiters will listen to your exact needs, and will be your single point of contact, even when you need staff for your other properties abroad.
Contact us today to hire household staff in the UK.
You call or email our UK office. A recruiter gets back to you within 24 hours, sets up a call, and asks about your household.
What does your day look like, how many properties do you have, what do you actually need this person to do.
The more you tell us upfront, the faster we can find the right person.
Morgan Richez, co-founder of Morgan & Mallet: “If you are very unclear, the best candidates won’t apply. They’ll say, ‘I don’t want to lose my current job for something I don’t know.’
Being clear at the beginning is the best way to attract the best candidates.”
Your recruiter then searches our database, one of the largest of any household staffing agency in the UK.
We built our own system because normal domestic staffing recruitment software doesn’t cover what matters in a private home. Ours does.
Things like whether someone is OK with dogs, or whether they know how to look after antique wood floors.
You get a shortlist of candidates who’ve already been interviewed and checked. We set up your interviews, tell you what’s worth asking, and flag anything we think you should know.
Every candidate does a 90-minute interview with us before you ever see their profile. We test real skills during that interview.
We’ll ask a housekeeper what she’d use to clean Carrara marble versus honed limestone. A chef cooks a trial meal.
Ellie Littlechild, one of our recruiters, also tests how people handle pressure: “Travel changes late in the evening. Vendor failures before guests arrive. Expense approvals under pressure. These moments reveal working style quickly.”
We check references with former employers, run criminal background checks, and go through employment history for the last five to seven years.
DBS checks happen on every placement of household staff in the UK.
Every candidate has at least three years working in private homes. This is written into every recruiter’s contract, and our system won’t let anyone through until every check is done.
Laurine Mallet, co-founder of Morgan & Mallet, interviews senior candidates herself:
“I purposely overstep the line during interviews. I ask questions that are too personal, on purpose. If someone handles it with grace, that tells me more than their CV.”
Eric Rios, another of our recruiters at Morgan & Mallet, screens every application by hand:
“If a candidate doesn’t show up to an interview and starts lashing out at me about it, that’s a good sign they’re going to be like that with the client too. They’ve shown their true cards immediately.”
London is our busiest market. More candidates live here, so we can usually fill roles faster.
Rachel Dixon, another of our recruiters, recently placed a butler in a Belgravia townhouse where the principal needed someone fluent in English and Mandarin.
We’re filling more roles up north than we used to.
We recently placed a live-in butler in Scotland and a private chauffeur in Manchester for a high-net-worth family on a four days on, three days off rota.
More wealthy families are buying second homes out here. We recently placed a rota chef in Oxfordshire for a family of five on a week-on, week-off schedule.
Lots of second homes where the owners spend most of the year in London or abroad and need someone to look after things while they’re away. Estate couples, housekeepers, gardeners.
Country estates need different people from London townhouses.
Morgan Richez: “If we’re talking about a castle in the UK, the client might need people who know agriculture, how to fix things, how to make a vegetable garden. We’ve even had requests in Scotland for domestic couples who know how to hunt. Gamekeeping. That’s a completely different request.”
We cover the whole of the UK. If your property is somewhere remote, we’ll be straight with you about whether the search will take longer or whether you’ll need to pay more to get the right person out there.
A three-month guarantee. If it doesn’t work out, we replace once at no extra cost.
Your recruiter checks in during the guarantee period, starting at ten days.
If you’ve got properties abroad, the same recruiter handles those too. All eight M&M offices run on the same system, so a candidate interviewed in Paris shows up on your London recruiter’s screen within minutes.
“I worked with this client once who lived in a hotel room for most of the year. They wanted a private chef though, which was tricky.
We had to sit down with the hotel and work it all out so the chef could actually get into the kitchen.
Then more recently, I placed a chef for someone who wanted really specific macro menus and needed the chef to work alongside a nutritionist.
The whole thing had to be healthy, yeah, but the client still wanted meals that felt creative. They didn’t want to feel like they were being restricted, you know?”

M&M was founded in 2015 by Morgan Richez, a former butler, and Laurine Mallet, a former nanny. Both worked in private service in London before starting the domestic staffing agency.
We’ve now got offices in London, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Paris, Geneva, Monaco, and Dubai.
Several of our UK recruiters come from private household staffing roles too. It changes how we assess candidates because we’ve done the work ourselves.

Yes, everywhere in the UK. London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Cotswolds, the South West, Scotland. If your property is somewhere rural, we’ll tell you upfront if it’s going to take longer to find the right person or if you’ll need to offer a higher salary to get someone out there.
It depends on the role and where you are. London placements can move quickly because more candidates are based here. Specialist roles like domestic couples or rota chefs take longer wherever you are because there are fewer people who do that work. We’ll give you an honest timeframe once we understand what you need.
DBS checks on every UK placement. Criminal background screening, reference checks with former employers, and employment history going back five to seven years. Our system won’t let a candidate move through the process until every check is done.
Yes. The same recruiter who handles your UK search can staff your properties abroad. We’ve got offices in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Paris, Geneva, Monaco, and Dubai, and they all run on the same system.
You get a three-month guarantee. If it doesn’t work out during that period, we replace once at no extra cost. Your recruiter checks in regularly, starting at ten days, so problems usually get spotted early.
