What Happens When You Contact Our Domestic Staffing Agency in Miami?

The first step when you contact Morgan & Mallet about staff for your Miami home, a recruiter from our Miami office will map out the household before any search starts.

South Florida is our fastest-growing US market. We find many people who used to live in New York are moving to Miami says Morgan Richez, co-founder of Morgan & Mallet. Many of our Miami clients are recent arrivals building a household team from scratch, and we structure the search around that.

The questions we ask are specific to how Miami households run. Whether the home is on the water and staff will be around boats and pool areas.

Whether you split the year between South Florida and the northeast or Europe, and need staff who travel or who need to hold the property while you’re away.

Whether the household runs in English, Spanish, or both. The answers to these questions then determine the candidates we select to put in front of you, whether your home is in Coral Gables, Fisher Island, Boca Raton, or down in the Keys.

Next we search our database of vetted candidates based on everything you have told us and send you a handpicked shortlist so you can compare people side by side.

We arrange the interviews, advise on the offer and contract, and stay involved after the start date.

How Are Miami Candidates Screened Before They Reach You?

We do 90-minute interviews and a criminal background screen before you see their profile. References are checked with the people who employed them.

And the screening is done by people, not software. “Sometimes you have to read between the lines of a resume in a way an AI tool can’t, but a consultant can,” says Eric Rios, a recruiter at Morgan & Mallet who started out recruiting at Google. “There are minimum qualifications you need. But to match a client with a candidate, the most important thing is personality.”

That selectiveness really is important in Miami because the households here work differently. A housekeeper might be alone in a waterfront property for months while the family is in Europe for the whole summer.

A nanny works around pools, docks, and beaches every day, which is why 66% of our Miami nanny placements emphasize water safety as a skill that’s needed.

Language gets verified too. 68% of the nannies in our database speak more than one language, and for bilingual Miami households we confirm during the interview that a candidate’s Spanish or English is genuinely working level.

By the time you meet someone, whatever they say about themselves on their profile has already been tested.

Estate & Luxury Staffing Across South Florida

Much of our work in Miami is estate and luxury staffing. We know that families on the waterfront and the private islands need discreet staff with experience in large homes. Each area often has its own pattern of hiring:

  • Fisher Island – estate managers who understand a ferry-only island, coordinating contractor arrivals, club access and spa bookings in America’s wealthiest ZIP code.

  • Star Island – discreet estate managers and chauffeurs for celebrity waterfront estates, used to causeway access and the Art Basel and F1 Grand Prix calendar.

  • Indian Creek Island – house managers and live-in estate-manager couples who have strong security experience for 24/7 cover on the “Billionaire Bunker.”

  • Coral Gables & Gables Estates – estate managers and housekeepers who know how to work with marble, for the large Mediterranean estates behind guarded gates.

  • Coconut Grove – multilingual nannies and property managers for waterfront family homes in the Grove’s walkable village.

We also do residential staffing in Key Biscayne, Bal Harbour, Brickell, Venetian Islands, Sunset Islands, Hibiscus Island, Palm Island, North Bay Road, and Pinecrest.

Beyond Miami-Dade and Broward, our recruiters place staff across South Florida, from Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton up to Palm Beach and Jupiter.

What Our Miami Recruiters Say

What is driving the current 'gold rush' of HNW families to Florida, and how is this shifting the local talent landscape?

“Wealthy families are leaving New York for Miami and Palm Beach permanently, not just for vacations. Tax savings and lifestyle drive the move. We help them settle fast with local connections.

This increase has shrunk the talent pool and pushed wages higher. New arrivals often underestimate costs. They expect to pay $20 per hour for housekeepers when the real rate is $45 to $75.

For experienced staff, which Morgan & Mallet exclusively places, wages are rising even faster. We explain this upfront so placements last.

We also handle the snowbird problem. Many clients split time between Florida and New York. We place staff who rotate between both homes so service stays consistent year-round.”

Household Staff Roles We Place in Miami

We see demand across waterfront properties in Gables Estates, Fisher Island, have seen strong demand for estate managers in Miami.

Estate managers here to need to know the area, we would rather place someone who has worked in Miami before because they can get up and running in the role faster, rather than learning on the job about the area.

There is strong demand across Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, and Pinecrest for nannies.

Spanish and Portuguese speakers are preferred.

Morgan Richez our co-founder says that French and English nannies are asked for the most, though Spanish and Arabic speakers are increasingly sought after in the Miami market.

Fisher Island condos and Star Island estates need housekeeper professionals who have the skills to look after luxury waterfront properties from 5,000 to 30,000 square feet.

One of our recruiters here placed a housekeeper-cook for an Italian couple who were particular about cleanliness and really detailed focused. They trained the candidate, and the placement became a real success.

PAs here need to understand the rhythm of the city. Which is why we prefer to recruit PA’s who have experience working here.

Personal assistants in Miami do things like securing Art Basel VIP access, deal with private aviation at Opa-locka Executive Airport, book restaurants during peak season, and arrange yacht provisioning for Bahamas trips.

They need to know about Miami’s social calendar and absolute discretion is just expected of course.

Private drivers in Miami need to know how to deal with MacArthur Causeway during cruise ship arrivals, coordinate yacht club pickups, access Miami International Airport’s private terminals, and look after fleets including Ferraris, Porsches, and Sprinter vans.

A private chauffeur in Miami has a role that can be quite different than in other areas.

Our co-founder Morgan Richez started his career as a chauffeur for an ultra-high-net-worth family and he understand that you really have to know a city inside out if you are going to chauffeur there. Our Miami chauffeurs are handpicked based on this.

What Miami Families Need to Know About Household Employment Law

Florida and federal laws govern domestic employment in Miami:

  • Minimum Wage: $14.00/hour (increasing to $15.00/hour on Sept 30, 2026).

Morgan & Mallet recruiters advise families to have competitive compensation packages that exceed minimum wage thresholds. This makes sure your offer attracts the most qualified candidates in a market where top talent commands premium rates.

  • Overtime: 1.5× after 40 hours/week for “live-out” employees (nannies, housekeepers).

Our team structures employment contracts that clearly define overtime thresholds and weekly schedules, which prevents misunderstandings that can derail placements during the probationary period.

  • Live-in Exemptions: Live-in employees are generally exempt from overtime pay under federal FLSA guidelines but must be paid for all hours worked.

Co-founder Morgan Richez has placed numerous live-in positions across Miami and advises families on documenting all worked hours to maintain compliance and protect both parties in long-term arrangements.

  • Leave Policies: Paid family leave and disability are not state-mandated; federal FMLA only applies to employers with 50+ employees.

Morgan & Mallet helps families develop competitive leave policies that attract senior candidates who expect professional employment standards, even when not legally required.

  • Tax Obligations: No state income tax; however, employers must pay Florida Reemployment Tax and federal payroll taxes (Social Security, Medicare).

Morgan & Mallet can offer Employer of Record services which takes care of your payroll and all the legal aspects of employing staff, this service is popular with international principals. Morgan & Mallet will manage W-2s and quarterly filings so your operation stays professional and legally sound.

Note: This is general information, not legal advice. Families should consult legal or HR professionals for definitive guidance specific to their circumstances.

Morgan & Mallet supports Miami families with payroll structuring, employee classification guidance, background verification, and onboarding systems that meet state and federal requirements.

A Trusted Domestic Staffing Agency in Miami

At Morgan & Mallet, the founders, Laurine Mallet and Morgan Richez, know what it takes to work in a high-net-worth household because they’ve done it themselves.

Morgan started as a chauffeur. Laurine started as a nanny. Both worked directly for UHNW families before building Morgan & Mallet.

That insider expertise shapes how we approach domestic staffing in Miami.

As Florida’s tax laws continue to attract the wealthiest families, our clients began relocating to the state. They kept asking for Morgan & Mallet’s help, so we opened a regional office to serve them.

Miami Household Staffing:
Frequently Asked Questions

What if the staff don't work out?

Morgan & Mallet offers a three-month placement guarantee on all Miami household staff positions. If the initial placement doesn’t work out within the first 90 days, we’ll provide a free replacement at no extra cost.

We contact both families and staff every ten days during this period to catch any concerns early.

One client called ready to fire a newly placed chef because she found an expired box of cake in storage. The recruiter talked her through it – the chef hadn’t served the expired food, just forgot one item in the pantry.

Firing someone over that seemed extreme for what was clearly a small oversight during the adjustment period. The client kept the chef, and the placement became a long-term success.

This regular check-in helps us address small frustrations before they turn into firing decisions. Sometimes families need perspective during those early weeks when everything feels magnified.

Our goal is to get the match right the first time, but we stand behind every placement we make.

This guarantee protects your investment and gives you peace of mind when hiring.

Fees vary by role, often calculated as a percentage of the first-year salary. Expect transparency with no hidden charges from Morgan & Mallet.

We discuss budgets upfront during your initial consultation to provide custom quotes. This makes sure you understand total costs before committing to the search.

Miami’s competitive market means experienced staff command premium rates. Our recruiters explain realistic salary ranges for your specific needs so you can plan properly.

Many international clients choose Morgan & Mallet’s Employer of Record service to get started quickly without having to learn how to do everything themselves.
We act as the employer, doing everything from payslips to tax filing to insurance, and you receive one simple monthly invoice.

One lawyer hired a traveling nanny through our payroll service just two months after Morgan & Mallet opened the US office – she got her candidate placed and paid on time without dealing with any administrative headaches.

Setup usually takes just two days once you’ve chosen your candidate.

Morgan & Mallet stays involved for the critical first three months after placement. We contact both you and your staff member every ten days to ensure everything is running smoothly.

One Morgan & Mallet recruiter described how this works in practice. A client called two weeks after hiring a nanny, frustrated about small things like forgetting to clean the toaster.

The recruiter explained that the new nanny wasn’t the previous nanny and suggested writing a simple note as a reminder. Sometimes families just need that perspective – every person works differently, and learning a new household takes time.

This regular follow-up catches small frustrations early before they turn into problems. We can offer practical solutions, mediate expectations, or arrange a replacement if the fit truly isn’t working.

Our team remains available after the three-month period for questions about payroll setup, compliance requirements, or managing your household staff.

Many clients come back to us when expanding their team because they trust how we handle the entire relationship, not just the initial placement.

Morgan & Mallet follows a proven six-step process to place the right staff in your home.

Step 1: Initial consultation. We discuss your household needs, family lifestyle, required skills, and budget expectations during a detailed phone call.

Step 2: Candidate search. Your recruiter searches our database of  vetted candidates across our global offices to identify qualified matches.

Step 3: Shortlist presentation. We present 3-5 pre-screened candidates with verified references, complete employment history, and background checks already completed.

Step 4: Interviews. You interview your top choices, either in person or via video call, with our team available to guide the process.

Step 5: Offer and onboarding. We help structure the employment offer, connect you with Employer of Record payroll specialists, and ensure proper contracts are in place.

Step 6: Follow-up support. We check in every ten days for three months, providing ongoing support to ensure the placement succeeds long-term.
