What does a lifestyle manager do?

A lifestyle manager helps you run your personal life so you can enjoy it. They run your private life, covering tasks related to family, travel, fitness, style, and entertainment when you need it.

Travel and experiences

A lifestyle manager plans your trip end to end, from flights to transfers to your vacation home. They build an itinerary tailored to the things you enjoy.

Munich

For one family we recruited for in Munich, that meant a traveling assistant who’d visit each restaurant before they arrived, check allergies with the chef and choose the wine.

Wellness

Your lifestyle manager makes sure your wellness retreats leave you rejuvenated and fresh with a training schedule that remains on track even when on the road.

Personal

Errands like curating your wardrobe, shopping for gifts, planning celebrations, all can be left in the hands of your lifestyle manager.

Dallas

Our 2026 Dallas search included packing in the brief, buying gifts and keeping the private plane fully stocked.

Family Projects

One-day jobs like organizing an outing or planning summer trips are taken over by the lifestyle manager, so your already busy schedule doesn’t get more swamped.

Parties take up a lot of this time for clients that we brief for. In the US, 38% of our job briefs mentioned events or entertaining. This is over all kinds of household roles we recruited for.

Laurine Mallet, our co-founder, says it’s the coordination between staff that keeps a home running well. Most lifestyle managers work alongside a personal assistant or a house manager.

Your assistant focuses on the admin and the house manager runs the property, while your lifestyle manager owns the parts that are meant to be enjoyed.

Some lifestyle managers can open doors for their employers in the social world too. When an international family new to California asked us for one, Morgan, our co-founder, looked for someone with local connections.

“[We] find the candidate who used to work for many wealthy families in California, because he knows all the good places, the golf, the club.

“So if he gets this new job, he’s going to say, ‘Okay guys, I’m going to organize a dinner in this club, and like that I will introduce you to other families,’” says co-founder Morgan Richez.

Lifestyle manager, personal assistant, or a concierge service?

A personal assistant is someone who handles your calendar, administrative work, and the logistics behind it. You employ them as your point of contact, handling your emails and phone calls, making sure the day moves as scheduled.

A lifestyle manager’s role extends beyond the admin side of your life. The enjoyable aspects of your life like travel and wellness are handled by them, making sure life feels good rather than just organized.

The two jobs do actually merge together in reality. Since January 2025, half of our job briefs in the US for personal assistants had lifestyle support as one of the duties.

Miami

Other clients we have prefer to keep them apart. An entrepreneur in Miami we recruited for in 2025 already had an executive assistant for flights and scheduling.

His new social curator ran the fun part of it, things like private dinners for 6 to 30 guests, as well as events and group trips.

A concierge service operates on a membership basis, where you have to subscribe for their services. They deal with your on-demand errands and bookings. Membership also gets you perks like exclusive restaurant reservations or event access.

Concierge firms don’t hire staff themselves, so many give these requests to an agency like ours.

The staff works for all members so they don’t know you.

As co-founder Laurine Mallet puts it:

“They don’t do recruitment, they do concierge. So actually it’s to make a link between your client’s needs and the good and right supplier.”

Which one you need depends on where you’re feeling the pressure.

Which one do you need?
HireWhen it fits
A personal assistantIf you need someone to get your calendar and inbox under control, a personal assistant works well.
A lifestyle managerIf the trips, parties, and training schedule are all landing on you, hiring a lifestyle manager is best.
A concierge serviceIf you just need a number to handle last-minute reservations for you, then a concierge service can get that covered.

Morgan Richez, our co-founder, has seen many clients have concierge memberships, maybe through a lifestyle management company, and their own personal staff employed by them as well.

The main difference is that your lifestyle manager knows you, your homes, your tastes, and answers only to you.

If the gap is in your schedule, our personal assistant page covers what you’ll need.

The lifestyle and wellness professionals we place

  • Lifestyle manager This is the person who makes sure the personal projects of your life are looked after. They’re employed by you and run your personal life the way you like it.
  • Private personal trainer A private trainer employed by you. They can work with you at your home gym or travel with you so your routine remains uninterrupted. In our personal trainer searches for candidates worldwide since 2022, 71% asked the trainer to travel with the family, and each of them had 74 applicants on average.
  • Private yoga instructor You get regular sessions and practice at home, on your own time. Your instructor knows about your body and your goals rather than a whole class. These roles are much harder to fill than trainers. Only 12 people in our candidate database list yoga or Pilates teaching in their work history, compared with 237 personal trainers.
  • Wardrobe manager They’re responsible for sourcing and buying archive collection pieces or fresh off the runway garments for your own personal closet. They take charge of fittings, alterations, and remodeling of your seasonal wardrobe. Wardrobe care was part of 21% of our job briefs in the United States, most often as part of a housekeeper, nanny or butler job.
  • Private hairdresser and grooming professionals This works best if you’d like the salon to come to you. You get regular haircuts, touch-ups, and basic grooming on your own time.
  • Ski instructors and sports professionals Whether you need a ski instructor for the season in Aspen or a golf coach to improve your swing, they are ready for when you and your guests arrive.
  • Massage and wellness practitioners You get regular treatment at home, so your body can recover during a downtime that fits your life instead of a clinic’s hours.
  • Pet care Dog walkers or pet-sitters for one-off occasions can be found through apps and websites. But when pet care is part of a household role, our recruiters staff it within your current team, so the person caring for your animals knows your home. Pets are commonly mentioned in our briefs. In the US, 17% of our job briefs mentioned them, from housekeepers to house managers.

Sometimes the animals are the biggest part of the role in lifestyle jobs.

Philadelphia

In 2026 a family in Philadelphia asked us for a pet and home assistant to walk, feed and groom their dogs and help run the house, at $60,000 to $90,000 a year.

Our candidate files make a note of pets and allergies of our candidates, so we can match people to homes with animals.

“For example, a client would like someone who can speak English and French, who [has] a driving license, and he can’t have someone with [a] pet allergy because he [has] pets.

“So actually we found this specific candidate thanks to our filters,” says Laurine Mallet.

If the role you’re looking for isn’t on the list, then you can call any of our U.S. offices today at +1 (646) 965-2308 and ask our recruiters.

With over 200,000 candidates on our database and 50,300+ fully vetted, we’ll have the right fit for the role you didn’t even have the name for.

How placement works, and how we vet

The Morgan & Mallet placement process works in five steps:

  1. Consultation A quick but thorough phone call with one of our recruiters about how your life is right now lets us know the exact role you need. Your current routine, travel calendar, and what a good life feels like to you help us develop a thorough job description.
  2. Vetting We then look for candidates with the qualifications you need and the temperament that works well. Every candidate sits through a 90-minute interview and all certifications like NASM or ACE are checked with the issuing body to see if they’re real. Our New Jersey job brief for a client in 2025 specifically asked trainers for NASM, ACE or ISSA certification, and Pilates teachers for BASI, Balanced Body or STOTT training.
  3. Shortlist Next, our recruiters get back to you with a list of three to five strong matches for your home and lifestyle.
  4. Interviews and trial periods We set up direct interviews and trial periods between you and the shortlisted candidates so you make the final decision. We can guide you on what questions to ask and what red flags look like before you hire the candidate.
  5. Placement and support Once you choose a candidate, we can connect you with legal advisors for employment contracts, payroll, and onboarding support. Every placement comes with a three month replacement guarantee. If you’re dissatisfied with your latest hire within the first three months, we restart the search free of charge.

That first call is also where we tell you if something can’t be done.

Morgan Richez is blunt about it:

“We are not scared to say no, we are not able to do that. We are not a concierge service, we are recruiters. So our job is to make sure this is feasible.”

What should you look for in a lifestyle manager?

Look for someone who has already managed the personal part of a private household, who keeps things to themselves and is ready to travel with you when you do.

Here’s how often those things came up in our job briefs in the US:

What families asked for in our US job briefs Share of our 465 US job briefs, every household role, May 2022 to June 2026
RequirementShare of briefs
Discretion more than any other request61%
Experience in a private household58%
Willingness to travel abroad29%
A driver’s license22%
Dallas

Seniority is important as well. Our search for a client in Dallas in 2026 for a senior private personal assistant with lifestyle duties in the role asked for 10 to 12 years in the job, plus needed them to have their own car to run errands.

Miami

The best background isn’t always a household one. For the Miami social curator job, the family was happy to get applications from event planners, VIP hosts and private client managers from luxury hotels and private aviation.

Experienced people also settle in faster, as Laurine Mallet explains.

“That’s why they would like to hire people with experience, because people with experience already know the job. They just need to adapt to the family lifestyle.”

How much does a lifestyle manager cost?

Our salary report doesn’t list lifestyle managers on their own yet, so our own job ads are the best guide.

Scope

The scope of the role that is being asked for affects salary because running the personal side of a single home is different from managing travel plans, outings, and entertainment for three different homes.

Location

Location matters too, especially in metropolitan cities like New York and Los Angeles as well as areas like Greenwich. The salaries are more towards the higher end of the range to account for the cities’ higher cost of living.

Why families build their lifestyle team with Morgan & Mallet

Morgan & Mallet places lifestyle management staff in ultra-high-net-worth and royal homes, which means every candidate is held to a high standard before you review any profile.

How we vet

With about one in every four applicants making it through our vetting process, our placement success rate for nannies and butlers is 96%.

When we vet a lifestyle manager, we look for someone who stays steady even when things go sideways.

Discretion is as important as skill, especially since a lifestyle manager sees your whole life up close. During interviews, we look out for anyone who repeats stories about past families, getting rid of people who overshare from the shortlist.

Laurine Mallet notices it when candidates relax and start chatting.

“They forget that’s an interview, and from this time they start to tell you much more, or to tell you stories about their previous employers.

“Every single time I’m like, okay, so if they do this with me, maybe they will do the same with our clients,” she says.

One search, the whole team

Hiring with us means you don’t always have to do separate searches for every role. Our recruiters can staff a lifestyle manager and related specialists in a single search.

New Jersey

One family we worked with in 2025 spent two weeks in New Jersey. They asked us for six people at once, a sous chef, a housekeeper, a personal trainer, a Pilates trainer, a massage therapist and a barber.

The specialists were paid by the visit, from $125 to $200 a session for the trainer up to $200 to $350 for the barber. The trainer job had 19 applicants, the Pilates job only 6.

Morgan Richez, our co-founder, says requests to staff a whole new property, from two people up to ten, come to us two or three times a month.

His advice to families hiring for the first time is to agree who does what role before anyone starts.

“When you set up a team, you need to make sure that the coordination is really good and everything is clear for everyone.

“Because when it’s very unclear, with other people they say, okay, this is not my job, this is your job,” he says.

What is family office lifestyle management?

It’s lifestyle work that goes through a family’s private office instead of directly through the family. The lifestyle manager still looks after trips, plans and tastes, but is directed by the office and follows its rules.

It’s more common than maybe you might expect.

In 43% of the lifestyle searches we’ve worked on since 2023, the new hire worked in an office. These were family offices in Monaco and Newport Beach, and a chief of staff’s team in Dallas.

Monaco

The family office in Monaco wanted a right hand for its director, someone who’d keep a profile of each family member’s habits and preferences. The search for that role had 226 applicants, more than any other lifestyle job we’ve advertised.

Newport Beach

In Newport Beach, an international family asked for a chief of staff who would also manage their social calendar as well as the family office. If your office needs other roles filled, see our family office staffing page.

Expect the office to be in charge of the process.

“Every family office has different rules,” says co-founder Morgan Richez. “So they would like to find an agency who can follow exactly the same rules like them.”
