Job description
A private family based near Reno, Nevada, is seeking an exceptional and highly experienced Private Housekeeper to join their established household team on a long-term basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a career housekeeper who takes genuine pride in maintaining a
private residence to an impeccable five-star standard and beyond.
The successful candidate will have a sophisticated understanding of private household service and be confident caring for fine textiles, delicate fabrics, artwork, specialist surfaces and high-value
household items.
They should understand the importance of discreet, unobtrusive and anticipatory service and be able to maintain exceptional standards while working quietly and efficiently around the family.
The Housekeeper will work alongside other members of the household team, including a nanny and family assistant. No childcare is required, although the candidate must be comfortable working in a family environment with children.
This is a permanent position, and the family is particularly interested in candidates with excellent longevity in previous roles who are seeking a stable, long-term commitment.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Maintaining the residence to an exceptional five-star standard
- Detailed and deep cleaning of the home
- Daily cleaning and upkeep of bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas
- Expert care of fine furnishings, artwork, delicate materials and specialist surfaces
- Knowledge and appropriate care of fine textiles and luxury household items
- Full family laundry, including washing, drying, handwashing and specialist garment care
where appropriate - High-standard ironing, pressing and wardrobe care
- Changing and making beds to an immaculate standard
- Maintaining beautifully organised wardrobes, cupboards, drawers and storage areas
- Household organisation and maintaining systems to ensure the residence runs efficiently
- Monitoring household supplies and assisting with inventories and restocking
- Basic meal preparation as required
- Preparing and setting tables to a high standard
- Assisting with formal and informal table service
- Clearing and resetting dining areas following meals
- Maintaining kitchens and service areas to impeccable standards
- Anticipating the family's needs and providing discreet, unobtrusive service
- Working collaboratively with the wider household team
- Assisting with other reasonable household duties as required
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Significant professional housekeeping experience within high-end private residences,
luxury hospitality or similarly demanding environments - Previous experience working to five-star service standards
- Excellent knowledge of specialist cleaning techniques
- Strong knowledge of the care of fine textiles, delicate fabrics, artwork, luxury furnishings
and specialist surfaces - Excellent laundry and ironing skills
- Experience with wardrobe care and organisation
- Confidence with table setting and formal/informal table service
- Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- An understanding of “invisible service” — anticipating needs while remaining discreet and
unobtrusive - A proactive approach and the ability to identify what needs to be done without constant
direction - The ability to work independently while also being an excellent team player
- Comfort working around children and within a busy family household
- Flexibility and willingness to assist colleagues when required
- A polished, professional and discreet manner
- Respect for confidentiality and the family's privacy
- The ability to read the room and adapt their service accordingly
- Excellent longevity in previous positions
- Excellent, verifiable professional references
- Legal authorisation to work in the United States
- A genuine desire to secure a stable, long-term position
Previous experience within a formal private household would be highly advantageous. Candidates
coming from a luxury hospitality background may also be considered if they demonstrate a strong
understanding of private service and are able to adapt to the discretion and flexibility required
within a private family home.
Work conditions
- Location: Near Reno, Nevada, USA
- Position: Permanent, Full-Time, Live-Out
- Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, approximately 40 hours per week
- Working Hours: Mid-morning to early evening; flexibility required
- Start Date: As soon as possible
