Job description
A professional, dual-career household in Upper Manhattan is seeking an exceptional Career Nanny to join a wellcoordinated two-nanny team.
The family values a warm, structured environment where children are academically engaged, creatively stimulated, and held to high expectations with respect and encouragement.
We maintain a zero-screen-time home, and our children gravitate toward imaginative, cooperative play.
The family has grown and changed since they last hired, and are looking for a new team member whose strengths match where they are now.
We are seeking a long-term partner our previous caregivers have each been with us for many years.
Responsibilities
- Academic Support: Take an active role in the children's intellectual development keeping them on track with homework and material assigned by tutors, encouraging shared reading, and fostering a genuine love for learning
- Household Support: Meal prep for the children, children's laundry, keeping kids' spaces organized, and online shopping (Amazon, FreshDirect); a housekeeper handles deep cleaning
- Creative Enrichment: Bring educational expertise and creative skills whether musical, artistic, or storytelling-based into the children's daily routines and afternoons
- Schedule Management: Maintain and execute the daily rhythm of the household; the day naturally divides into phases: morning care for the baby and preschooler, school drop-off, sole care of the baby through the afternoon, then partnering with the second nanny for pickups, activities, and playdates
- Collaborative Care: Work in tandem with the other long-term nanny to provide seamless coverage and care for the family's four children in practice, each nanny typically cares for two children at a time.
Requirements
- Educationally Oriented: Classroom or tutoring experience, with a proven ability to support early literacy, numeracy, and curiosity-driven learning; background in a child-centered educational philosophy (Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf) is a plus
- Creatively Skilled: Musical ability, arts & crafts, storytelling, or drama experience that can enrich the children's days
- Long-Term Oriented: Seeking a professional looking for a lasting home where they can grow with the family
- Proactive & Independent: Both parents work full-time and bring genuine respect for their nanny's expertise offering space and trust to lead the day with confidence
- Warm & Collaborative: A natural with kids who creates structure through warmth and consistency, and who thrives as part of a team
Additional Details:
- Family keeps a Kosher kitchen, though easily learned
- Fully vaccinated, including MMR; CPR/First Aid certified (can be renewed upon hire)
Work conditions
- Location: Upper West Side, NYC
- Schedule:
- 40 hours guaranteed: Monday–Thursday afternoons, 1–8pm preferred (12–7pm possible), plus Friday 7am–6pm
- 45 hours guaranteed: same as above, with a longer Thursday starting as early as 7am
- Household Structure: Four children (ages 1 to 8 years), family of six; the family keeps a Kosher kitchen easily taught
- Start Date: As soon as the right fit is found (ASAP)
