Job description

A private family residing on the Upper West Side of Manhattan is seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and long-term Full-Time Housekeeper to maintain a clean, organized, and smoothly running home.

The family includes a 6-month-old infant daughter who is primarily cared for by her stay-at-home mother. Please note: This is strictly a housekeeping and home-management position, not a nanny role.

While the ideal candidate should be comfortable around infants and open to providing occasional light assistance while a parent is present, the core focus of this role is meticulous home care.

Responsibilities

General Housekeeping & Organization

  • Daily Cleaning: Perform deep and maintenance cleaning, tidying, and daily organization of the entire apartment.
  • Laundry Care: Handle all household laundry, including washing, folding, ironing, and changing bed linens.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Manage kitchen cleanup, load/unload the dishwasher, hand-wash delicate items, and ensure countertops and surfaces are sanitized.
  • Organization: Regularly organize closets, cabinets, the pantry, and general household supplies. Keep track of inventory and replenish items as needed.
  • Waste Management: Empty household trash, recycling, and diaper bins daily, ensuring liners are replaced.
  • Deliveries: Receive incoming packages and deliveries, ensuring they are safely brought into the apartment and put away.

Baby-Related Housekeeping

  • Nursery Care: Prepare and maintain the nursery, bedroom, and play areas, keeping them clean and organized.
  • Gear Maintenance: Wipe down and sanitize the stroller, diaper bag, toys, and other baby equipment.
  • Sanitization: Wash and sterilize bottles, pacifiers, humidifiers, and breast pump parts (as needed)

Meal Prep & Errands (Preferred)

  • Assist with basic grocery shopping and running local household errands.
  • Light meal preparation and food prep support.

Requirements

  • Experienced: Proven experience working as a private housekeeper in a high-end family home.
  • Proactive & Detail-Oriented: A self-starter who notices what needs to be done without being asked, with an eye for presentation and order.
  • Adaptable: Comfortable working in a home environment alongside a stay-at-home mother.
  • Trustworthy: Possesses a high level of discretion, reliability, and integrity.
  • Language: Fluency in Spanish is a strong plus, though not strictly required.
  • Requirements: Must have excellent verifiable references and be fully authorized to work in the United States.

Work conditions

  • Start Date: Flexible
  • Location: NYC, Upper Westside
  • Schedule: Full-time schedule, 30 hours a week
  • The family travels periodically throughout the year (totaling approximately 2–3 months per year). The compensation structure during these travel periods is as follows:
    • Short Trips (Under 2 weeks): Compensation continues at the regular full-time rate.
    • Extended Trips (2+ weeks with advance notice): Compensation transitions to a 50% paid retainer. During this time, the employee is expected to remain available for limited home-related responsibilities, including:
  • Checking on the apartment and watering plants.
  • Receiving and organizing mail, packages, and deliveries.
  • Handling occasional household matters or coordinating with building maintenance.
