A private family based near Reno, Nevada, is seeking an experienced, energetic and highly adaptable Nanny/Family Assistant to join their established household team on a long-term basis.
The family has three children: two 12-year-old boys and a 3-year-old child. The primary childcare focus will be on the youngest child, as the older children attend school during the day. However, the successful candidate must be comfortable caring for one, two or all three children depending on the family's needs.
This is a varied position combining childcare with general family and household support. The household already employs other staff, including another nanny and a security team (a housekeeper position is to be filled), so the successful candidate must be an excellent team player who is comfortable stepping in wherever additional support is required.
The family is looking for someone flexible and versatile rather than someone who sees their responsibilities as limited exclusively to childcare.
Schedule
The position operates on a rota of 10 days on / 9 days off. During the 10-day working period, the candidate typically lives in with the family and is on duty 24/7; occasionally an on period may be live-out, depending on the staffing schedule.
The candidate must have a high degree of flexibility and availability according to the family's needs. Overnight care is part of each on day: the candidate sleeps with a monitor for the 3-year-old as a safety measure (the child sleeps through the night).
Flexibility around the rota is required during travel periods and occasionally as the family's needs require. Following each 10-day working period, the candidate will have 9 consecutive days completely off duty. The salary will remain consistent throughout the year regardless of fluctuations in the family's day-to-day schedule.
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
Deep cleaning is not part of the position, as the household employs a weekly deep-cleaning team. However, the candidate must be comfortable taking a proactive, hands-on approach when needed.
The ideal candidate will be:
Previous formal-household experience would be advantageous but is not essential. The family is open to candidates from other strong private-household backgrounds who demonstrate the discretion, adaptability and professionalism required.
A formal childcare qualification or degree is not required.
The candidate typically lives in at the family home during each 10-day on period and returns to their own accommodation for the 9 days off. Occasionally an on period may be live-out, depending on the staffing schedule. Local candidates are welcome, and the family is also open to strong candidates relocating to the Reno area, with relocation assistance available.
The successful candidate would maintain their own accommodation near the family's residence for use during off days.
