A personal trainer helps their clients to improve their health and appearance through physical exercise.
They are expected to support and motivate their employers, working together to improve their fitness levels in absolute safety and confidence.
Personal trainers are responsible for identifying their client's physical weaknesses and needs, and organising appropriate training programmes.
This may involve working around old sporting injuries and disabilities, low levels of motivation and/or fitness, and other personal issues that must be handled with sensitivity and discretion.
The trainer should seek to encourage the client’s physical development and push them to maximise their sporting capacities.
He or she must have a good understanding of their client’s aims and wishes. They may be requested to teach in their client's home, outdoors, in specialised gyms, or even asked to travel with the client.

What responsibilities does a personal trainer have?
- Supervising the client’s physical safety and performance
- Evaluating progress, preparing reports, providing constructive criticism and advice
- Understanding the client’s physical capacity, strengths, weaknesses and objectives
- Designing and demonstrating exercises, explaining them and their merits
- Helping the client develop, building their confidence and motivation
- Helping establish a safe, regular exercise schedule
- Offering advice on exercise equipment and how to use it
- Liaise with various parties such as psychotherapists, doctors, nutritionists, gyms and sub-contractors etc...
Planning and administrative duties
- Designing personalised training programmes
- Registering the client in sporting competitions
All our personal trainers are required to:
- Hold clean criminal records in both their country of employment and country of origin
- Present all certificates and qualifications from training centres and/or schools they attended
- Successfully pass two interview stages
- Provide at least three positive references from previous employers
- Complete professional dossiers containing: CV, cover letter, proof of identity (photocopy or scan), proof of address, proof of the right to work in the country of employment (if applicable), driving license and pay slips from previous professional placements. Candidates should be aware that other documentation may also be required.
