The ideal candidate will be highly educated, with a strong background in early years education, and able to provide a structured, stimulating, and development-focused environment tailored to the child’s age.

This is a live-in role with a private bedroom and bathroom provided. The governess will work in partnership with the mother (who is often at home) to ensure the child’s daily routine, early learning, and overall well-being are consistently supported.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate educational tools such as flashcards, storytelling, music, and creative play.
  • Use learning methods including phonics, basic numeracy, abacus, tangram, Lego, and magnetic tiles to support development.
  • Encourage early problem-solving, fine motor skills, and creative thinking through structured and free play.
  • Organise and accompany the child to classes, playdates, and outings (with a driver provided).
  • Work collaboratively with the parents to support developmental milestones and routines.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene for all childcare-related items.
  • Encourage good manners, emotional intelligence, curiosity, and independence.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment focused on early learning and development.

Requirements

  • University degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience working with toddlers (1–3 years old) in a private household or educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of early years development and educational methodologies.
  • Confident in implementing structured learning through play and educational tools.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Warm, calm, and nurturing personality with a professional approach.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and detail-oriented.
  • Discreet, trustworthy, and experienced in private households.
  • Able to work collaboratively with parents and adapt to family dynamics.
  • Willingness to travel with the family when required.

Work conditions

  • Live-in position with private bedroom and bathroom provided
  • Working hours: 12 hours per day (with natural breaks during naps and classes)
  • Schedule: 6 days per week, 1 day off
  • Chef and housekeeping staff employed (no household duties required)
  • Small, friendly household dog present
  • Driver provided for the child’s transportation
  • Visa, medical insurance, and paid annual leave included
  • Location: Mumbai, India
  • Start Date: ASAP
