The head of security is responsible for a security team. This team may be responsible for property and or personal (or bodyguard) security services and protection of high-profile or at risk individuals (this may include celebrities, political figures, members of UHNW or royal families and many more). 

They are charged with ensure the safety of the client, their family and guests, in all aspects of life, such as travelling, goods and properties, during events and travelling.

They will be expected to evaluate and advise on potential risks and how to avoid them. 

The security team must not only ensure the client’s safety from harassment, violence and other unlawful actions in public, but also in private. Depending on the preferences and situation of the client, they may be a required presence at all times: in a client’s private accommodation, during private events, permanently available on call and securing the employer’s environment.

What can a security manager do for you?

Duties may include 

  • Planning timetables
  • Organising and chairing team meetings 
  • Conducting thorough location checks
  • Conducting rigorous security checks on people coming into contact with the client
  • Recruiting new members for the security team, overseeing detailed CRB, background and training checks

What are the responsibilities of a head of security ?

  • Conducting daily evaluations of potential threats
  • Liaising with public services (police, other security staff)
  • Remaining up-to-date with local security laws, regulations and protocols
  • Organising security staff and itineraries to ensure the client, their family and assets are secure
  • Acting as liaison between the client and the security team
  • Managing sub-contractors and security systems (such as alarm systems, CCTV etc.)
  • Being contactable 24/7
  • Managing all administrative duties related to the security department
What accommodation should be expected for a head of security ?

When travelling, the head of security is generally offered hotel or other accommodation in close proximity to the client. The head of security would generally be expected to live near the family’s home to ensure quick reactivity in emergencies and constant availability.

All our heads of security are required to:

  • Hold clean criminal records in both their country of employment and country of origin
  • Present all certificates and qualifications from training centres and/or schools they attended
  • Successfully pass two interview stages
  • Provide at least three positive references from previous employers
  • Complete professional dossiers containing: CV, cover letter, proof of identity (photocopy or scan), proof of address, proof of the right to work in the country of employment (if applicable), driving license and pay slips from previous professional placements. Candidates should be aware that other documentation may also be required.
