Looking to Hire a Travelling Butler in Gstaad, Switzerland
Full time Travelling Butler Job Offer and Vacancy Between Switzerland and Belgium
Lovely small family is looking for an experienced and energetic German, French and/or English speaking Butler/Majordomo to join and manage their large household staff in their two residences in Gstaad, Switzerland (7 months in winter) and Verviers, Belgium (5 months in summer) with occasional traveling on demand.
The ideal candidate will organise, advise and supervise estate staff such as cleaning, laundry and kitchen staff, chauffeurs and gardeners etc according to the employer’s specific demands and expectations.
He/She will be planning schedules, managing timetables, train staff according to the employers’ demands and be responsible for the general management and the recruiting of staff. He/she will also be in charge of administrative duties.
The right person will love children and animals and not be afraid of gentle but big dogs. The Butler/Majordomo has to be a hands-on and upright, have an important sense of duties and strong work ethics. The ideal candidate will be able to take decisions and to transform them into action without hesitation.
Given the nature and profile of the property, the Principals occasionally entertain informally and formally. At these times the traditional butler duties are required, working to compliment and supervise the kitchen and service staff.
More regularly the family have a more informal, modern lifestyle, and the role will be that of a general household manager.

Vacancy duties and responsibilities
- Manage and effectively coordinate all household activities
- Supervise and train the household staff (up to 28 persons) according to the employers’ specific demands.
- Recruitment and general staff management so that the households run smoothly at all times
- Maintaining and cleaning valuable silverware, fine porcelain and crystal wares
- Overseeing and preparing correct tables services for breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Managing and maintaining employers’ wardrobes (ensuring clothes are washes, pressed and arranged, shoe polished etc.
- Preparing travel plans and luggage, make sure that nothing has been forgotten when traveling
- Travel ahead of the employers to make sure the household runs smoothly when they arrive in residence
- Understanding, promoting and defending household protocols among staff and guests
- Managing stock and supply operations, in particular of high value commodities such as fine wines etc
- Recruiting and training of household staff
- Maintaining exhaustive and up-to-date inventories of valuables
- Inviting and welcoming guests
- Establishing and respecting workable estate budgets in collaboration with the employer
- Serving food and drinks and supervise the service staff ensuring proper service at all times
- Organising and supervising social events
- Taking telephone calls and proper handling of correspondance
Profile requirement
- M/F
- At least 5 years experience in a similar role in a private household
- Pro-active and efficient person with a great sense of duty and strong work ethics
- German and French fluent, English a plus
- Fully trained Butler
- Ability to build, federate, manage and motivate a team of 28 persons
- Ability to take decisions and put them into action without hesitation
- Positive and enthusiast personality who knows how to prevent and manage interpersonal and intergenerational conflicts
- Delicate, discreet, well presented and educated person with impeccable manners
- Humble, upright, honest and diligent person
- Excellent communication skills
- Swiss work permit
- Dog lover and nor be afraid of gentle but large dogs
- Must love children
- Full, clean driving licence
- Impeccable appearance and professional attitude
Conditions
- Swiss working contract with Homebase in Gstad, Switzerland
- Schedule: 42 hours over 5 days including / flexibility on evenings & weekends when required
- This is a live-in position. A spacious and independant 2 bed apartment in Gstaad and a spacious loft in Verviers are provided.
Travelling Butler Salary
9000 CHF gross per month, negotiable for the right candidate and depending on experience
