What is a Companion/Caregiver?
What is a companion/caregiver ?
A caregiver can be a nurse, or a trained carer, with experience working with elderly people. He or she will be asked to offer not only physical, but also emotional comfort, and to provide companionship.
A caregiver’s daily responsibilities usually include cooking, cleaning of living quarters, washing and dressing the client if necessary, handling the timely administration of medication if required and completing any other medical care that may be needed (dressing wounds, massaging limbs etc.).
Generally, they would also aid and encourage the client to carry out gentle exercises, such as walking short distances, in the interests of their overall health and fitness. They are also expected to organise and accompany the client on social activities, as well as offering their own companionship and good humour.

What responsibilities does a companion/caregiver have?
Caregiver and companions are generally expected to support the client in daily tasks such as cleaning, caregiver and hygiene, and to provide them with comfort and companionship at all times.
They may also be required to carry out tasks such as driving and travelling with the client, accompanying them to certain events or appointments.
Responsibilities will depend on the level of care needed by the client (in cases of severe disability or illness the caregiver will likely benefit from external support), the caregiver own expertise, and location.
This role may vary greatly dependent on the client’s activity level and personal preferences. While some companions will be expected to handle cleaning, personal hygiene, cooking and some light administrative duties (handling correspondence, running errands etc.), others will simply be expected to offer their time to entertain the client by talking, listening, playing games and being available for them.
