Massage spa staff have a variety of duties and this includes performing a range of treatments on customers. Your job will be to support the well-being of your customers and the environment you’ll be working in will likely be calm, relaxing and clean.
As a spa employee you’ll be working with people every day, so it’s essential to have an outgoing personality and enjoy being around customers. You may also need to explain the treatment to your customer and what the benefits are, so you need to know the different treatments, how they work and why they are good for someone.

In addition to performing various treatments, you’ll need to ensure that customers are comfortable, and that they enjoy the treatment they receive. They need to feel relaxed, and well taken care of. In terms of working hours, you’ll likely work around 35 – 40 hours a week, although you may also work in shifts or work flexi times.
You can work at a wellness centre, hotel, or even a private client at their residence. You can choose to work on your own and build your own customer base, or you can even work on a cruise ship and enjoy travel. Being a spa therapist will lay the groundwork for various other health-related careers.
