Job description
Our private client based in West Sussex, UK is looking for an energetic and self-motivated gardener to care for their 15-acre property near Crawley.
The ideal candidate must be able to drive, operate a small tractor and have practical experience and knowledge using and maintaining simple electrical and petrol garden equipment.
A keen eye for hedge cutting and good practical skills are essential.

Responsibilities
- Grooming and maintaining the formal gardens of around 3 acres
- Cutting several hundred meters of yew, laurel and beech hedges once/twice a year
- Trimming Wisteria, which covers the main house, twice a year
- Weeding and spraying tarmacked areas
- Cleaning gutters on all outbuildings and power-washing of paved areas
- Mowing the lawns and trimming edges
- Leaf sweeping in autumn
- Looking after automatic swimming pool cleaning equipment and maintaining pool in summer
- Slashing 12 acres of surrounding fields with a tractor equipped with slasher
- Planting and watering trees and plants
- Pruning apple trees in orchard
- Laying traps for moles and other pests when needed
- Mending fences
- Trimming/cutting up small trees and fallen branches with chainsaw
- Using and maintaining hand tools, garden machinery, tractor and associated equipment
- Generally being in charge of property maintenance
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a gardener for a private family
- A keen eye for hedge cutting and a basic knowledge of plants and trees
- Full driver’s licence and capable of driving a tractor on the property
- Knowledge and experience working with electrical and petrol equipment and machinery
- Hard-working, reliable and self-motivated
- Experience working on large areas
- Good practical knowledge of how to make and fix tools around the property
- Flexible
Work conditions
- Start date: Immediate
- Type of contract: Permanent/Full-time
- Working hours: 5 days/week 9 am - 5 pm / 8 am - 4 pm
Salary
£ 26 000/ £ 30 000 gross annual salary
