Job description
Our return client is looking for a domestic couple experienced with relaxed country living who would provide maintenance and housekeeping service for about 30-40 hours per week (per couple). The clients own a small country house with outbuildings in East Devon, about 15 minutes drive from Axminster, East Devon, UK.
The owners will live in Zurich for another 3 years visiting Devon only for the month of August and New years. And then in 3 years’ time the clients will probably split their time between London and Devon.
The position would suit a couple who either don’t want to work full time or have their own business but with approval from owners (ie nature of business should not include visitors, trucks, noise etc on premises).
If the couple are good and keen gardeners then the hours could be extended and some of the external garden contract transferred.
Start: March 2020.

Responsibilities
- Maintenance of house (handyman jobs, minor plumbing, heating, drains, Aga etc) and tennis court, outdoor pool, numerous outbuildings and stables living accommodation
- Arranging contractors if needed
- Gardening - 4-5 acres, mix of formal and informal gardens, lawns, planting, flower beds, tree/hedge trimming and overall garden and orchard maintenance; beekeeping.
- Housekeeping - varies through the year depending on owners’ stays; cleaning, laundry, bins/rubbish, taking in and putting away food orders, arranging window cleaning, dry cleaning, flowers when owners are there. Periodic - 3 hours every week, increases before/during/after visits (owners spend whole of August there plus Christmas/New Year, some bank holiday weekends; also friends and family use the house 3-4 times a year too)
- Very occasional driving required (Need own car and clean driving license)
Requirements
- Relevant experience
- High degree of autonomy and responsibility
- Trustworthy and reliable
- Must be very comfortable with dogs
- Have clean drivers licence and own vehicle
- Gardening skills are essential (job could suit a person who also runs a gardening business)

- Enjoy full grounds, tennis court and pool when owners aren’t there
- Pets allowed, friendly ones. Owners have two dogs and occasional pet care needed.
- Cottage really only accommodates couple and one child
