A Private Hairdressers make use of a variety of techniques to enhance the personal appearance of their clients. They may work in a salon that cater for men, women, or children. As a private hairdresser you’ll spend your time greeting clients, discussing styles and treatments, and styling your clients’ hair according to their needs. You’ll be working with clients every day, so a friendly, outgoing personality will be ideal for this job.

Some of the skills you may need when working as a hairdresser include excellent interpersonal skills, good listening ability, positive attitude, working fast and accurately with your hands, staying calm under pressure, learn new techniques. You can continually educate yourself on new hairstyles and treatments, so that you can stay ahead of the curve when it comes to modern styles and demands from your growing client base.
In terms of working hours, as a hairdresser you’ll work around 5 – 6 days a week. This will normally include a Saturday and include one day a week off. Most salons will be open later every day, and some even at night, while part-time work may also be available.
