A houseman is responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of a property. He or she must be multi-skilled, capable of handling minor repair-work (such as painting, joinery, swimming pool maintenance etc.) and gardening.
He or she may also be responsible for carrying out minor electrical and plumbing tasks, and handling all types of manual and maintenance work in the property (such as hanging paintings, putting up shelves, moving furniture etc.).
A houseman is also responsible for managing property alarm systems and technology. The houseman will also liaise with any suppliers and subcontractors who are carrying out work within the property.
In some cases, the handyperson may also take on a security role, overseeing arrivals and departures within the property. They may equally be charged with caring for the employers’ animals, including feeding, walking and basic healthcare.
