A private helicopter pilot works exclusively for one client. He or she is required to be constantly available to transport the client wherever requested for both personal or business purposes (providing this is legally authorised and safe, with a suitable landing zone).
Helicopter pilots must have completed the appropriate training from an accredited flying school.
Some pilots may have undergone training in the army or police force prior to moving into private employment.

What are the responsibilities of a helicopter pilot ?
- Undertaking thorough checks of all system controls, equipment and fuel prior to and during the flight.
- Checking weather forecasts, determining the safest and quickest flight plans
- Managing all necessary flying permits, licenses and communications
- Maintaining all equipment to the highest standards of security and service
- Managing all financial matters related to fuel, stocks and supplies, landing and/or flight charges, taxes etc. related to the helicopter.
- Managing administrative tasks (such as landing permits, insurance etc.)
What accommodation should be expected for a helicopter pilot ?
When travelling, the pilot should be offered accommodation in a hotel close to the helicopter.

- Hold clean criminal records in both their country of employment and country of origin
- Present all certificates and qualifications from training centres and/or schools they attended
- Successfully pass two interview stages
- Provide at least three positive references from previous employers
- Complete professional dossiers containing: CV, cover letter, proof of identity (photocopy or scan), proof of address, proof of the right to work in the country of employment (if applicable), driving license and pay slips from previous professional placements. Candidates should be aware that other documentation may also be required.
