What is a Houseman?
Houseman Job Description
A houseman is responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of a property. He or she must be multi-skilled, capable of handling minor repair-work (such as painting, joinery, swimming pool maintenance etc.) and gardening.
He or she may also be responsible for carrying out minor electrical and plumbing tasks, and handling all types of manual and maintenance work in the property (such as hanging paintings, putting up shelves, moving furniture etc.).
A houseman is also responsible for managing property alarm systems and technology. The houseman will also liaise with any suppliers and subcontractors who are carrying out work within the property.
In some cases, the handyperson may also take on a security role, overseeing arrivals and departures within the property. They may equally be charged with caring for the employers' animals, including feeding, walking and basic healthcare.

What roles and responsibilities does a Houseman have ?
- Cleaning exterior parts of the property such as terraces, swimming pools, entrance halls, driveways etc.
- Moving pictures/paintings, furniture etc.
- Managing property technology such as alarm systems, automatic gates, lighting etc.
- Minor plumbing and electrical tasks
- Painting and decorating
- Managing and overseeing stock and supply operations of products and equipment related to the maintenance of the property

- Hold clean criminal records in both their country of employment and country of origin
- Present all certificates and qualifications from training centres and/or schools they attended
- Successfully pass two interview stages
- Provide at least three positive references from previous employers
- Complete professional dossiers containing: CV, cover letter, proof of identity (photocopy or scan), proof of address, proof of the right to work in the country of employment (if applicable), driving license and pay slips from previous professional placements. Candidates should be aware that other documentation may also be required.
